ok, it's time to make some noise about the police wasting their time and our tax money harrassing bicyclists. here's what we need: we need people to write letters/make calls to the Mayor, the City Councilors, the Oregonian, the Willamette Week, the Mercury, and PDOT.

to summarize what happened the last two sunday nights, there were 8-10 police officers setting up stings at stop signs throughout the West Hills on deserted roads waiting for bicyclists to not make a complete stop. i am starting a letter writing/phone calling campaign to make this an issue until this nonsense stops. let's take the fight to them, we have to act, not just re-act.

our talking points should stick to these major issues.

1. setting up stings to catch bike riders at a stop sign on a deserted road, on a sunday night, in portland's wealthiest neighborhood is A WASTE OF TAX PAYER MONEY AND A WASTE OF POLICE RESOURCES.

2. There are dangerous and violent crimes being committed and police resources are being wasted on non-violent traffic violations by bicyclists. further, there are high crime neighborhoods where police presence is desperately needed, like outer Southeast Portland, North Portland, and Old Town.

3. People are allowed to drive 64mph in a 55mph zone. this is illegal, yet police turn a blind eye because it is A COMMON PRACTICE, AND FAIRLY SAFE, LIKE BICYCLISTS TREATING STOP SIGNS AS A YIELD SIGN. (this is an important distinction. no one will support bikers ignoring stop signs, but they will support bikers treating stop signs as "yield" signs)

4. don't treat this as an issue of police harrassement, treat this as an issue of police wasting tax payer money and police resources. everyone can relate to that.

5. you don't have to mention zoobomb. keep in mind that many "normal" people think we suck. but even they hate wasting tax money and police resources.

6. use proper english (including capitalization, hehe). if you can't write like a smarty pants, maybe you should sit this one out. don't use slang, try not to make it a rant, etc. remember, your audience is middle class america.

There are also the "stings" in Ladd's Addition, and at the entrance to the Springwater Corridor. And the ever present danger of fixed gear death machines being harassed downtown by the Barnum and Balzer Circus. One could say that the increased presence at Last Thursday has to do with the Clownhouse, therefore has to do with freakbikes. All this in "America's Friendliest Bike City" with "Platinum Status".

Our harassment is nothing new, and the latest Police stunt was pure BS, but let's remember what Zoobomb is...email me if you want to know what I'm getting at.

As you can see I am not the one who should write this letter.

yeah, blackouts are effective for certain things, but to get the police off our backs, we need the public rallying behind us. police rely on no one seeing there bad deeds, when they're exposed to the light, they tend to react as more as they should, you know AS PUBLIC SERVANTS, SERVING AND PROTECTING THE CITIZENS.

The PoPo are much happier when people have their fun indoors rather than outdoors, and the restaurant and bar owners association no doubt has a very large slush fund that they use to keep the PoPo from overly scrutinizing their business or their patrons. ZooBomb in essence is being punished for providing free fun outdoors in public spaces.
